COLUMBUS, Ohio - D’Angelo Russell posted 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as Ohio State upended No. 16 Maryland, 80-56, at Value City Arena on Thursday night.
Dez Wells and Jake Layman posted 12 and 10 points, respectively, to lead Maryland (18-4, 6-3 Big Ten), which struggled from the floor, shooting 30.5 percent on the night. Layman added a team-high three assists and six rebounds.
Ohio State (17-5, 6-3 Big Ten) had three players in double-figures, including Russell, Marc Loving (19) and Jae’Sean Tate (16).
Wells scored nine points in the first half as the Terps trailed 34-26 at the break. After a slow start offensively for both squads, the Buckeyes shot nearly 59 percent from the field in the second half, led by eight points from Loving.
Evan Smotrycz added eight points and six rebounds for Maryland.
The Terps are off this weekend before welcoming Penn State on Wednesday for an 8:30 p.m. tipoff at XFINITY Center.
